The European Union classified cobalt chloride as a Class II carcinogen in 1998, leading to the ban of blue gum containing cobalt chloride in Europe and the United States. To address market demands, cobalt-free environmental discoloration silica gel was developed.
This product, derived from blue gum color-changing silica gel, is now replaced by orange color-changing silica gel. It is made from fine porous silica gel infused with an inorganic salt mixture and utilizes non-toxic compound dyes. This innovation eliminates environmental pollution caused by dyes and discoloration agents, offering superior adsorption performance and environmental protection.
The cobalt-free environmental discoloration silica gel is primarily used as a desiccant and indicator of desiccant saturation levels in sealed packaging. It is ideal for maintaining the relative humidity of space medium in precision instruments, general packaging, and instruments susceptible to moisture.

Blue silica gel is an ideal primary desiccant that can be used alone or blended with other desiccants for applications requiring visual moisture control. Chemsize silica gel beads are saturated with a moisture indicating solution, turning deep blue when dry and changing to purple and pink as they adsorb moisture.
Chemical Formula: SiO2·nH2O + CoCl2
Known as a narrow pore silica gel, Chemsize features interconnecting pores with diameters of 20-30 nanometers, effectively trapping and holding moisture through physical adsorption and capillary condensation. It can remove moisture at temperatures up to 220°F, but is most effective at room temperature (70-90°F) and high relative humidity (60-90% Rh).
Typical Applications: Compressed air dryers, gas drying, breathers, and packaged goods.
Type A silica gel is a transparent or translucent particle with the chemical formula mSiO2·nH2O. It is insoluble in water and inorganic acids, but soluble in hydrofluoric acid and strong caustic soda solutions. This silica gel offers high mechanical strength and good wear resistance.
Features: Average pore diameter of 2.0-3.0nm, Surface Area of 650-800m2/g, Pore Volume of 0.35-0.45ml/g.
Application: Primarily used for drying and moistureproofing, it can also serve as catalyst carriers, adsorbents, separators, and variable-pressure adsorbents.
