It is characterized by its hygroscopic process, turning from blue to purple and eventually light pink as it absorbs moisture. This color change indicates the humidity level of the environment and signals when it needs replacement. Blue silica gel can be used as a desiccant on its own or in conjunction with Type A Silica Gel.
