Blue silica gel is an ideal primary desiccant with a deep blue color when dry, changing to purple and pink as it adsorbs moisture. It has a chemical formula of SiO2·nH2O + CoCl2 and features a vast network of interconnecting pores with diameters of 20-30 nanometers. Silica gel effectively removes moisture at temperatures up to 220°F, best used at room temperature and high relative humidity.
Type A silica gel is a transparent or translucent particle with a chemical formula of mSiO2·nH2O. It is insoluble in water and inorganic acids, soluble in hydrofluoric acid and strong caustic soda solutions. This silica gel type has high mechanical strength, good wear resistance, and is commonly used for drying, moistureproofing, catalyst carriers, adsorbents, separators, and variable-pressure adsorbents.
