Type A silica gel is a transparent or translucent particle with a chemical molecular formula mSiO2.nH2O. It is insoluble in water and inorganic acids, soluble in hydrofluoric acid and strong caustic soda solutions. It has high mechanical strength and good wear resistance with an average pore diameter of 2.0-3.0nm, surface area of 650-800m2/g, and pore volume of 0.35-0.45ml/g.
It is mainly used for drying and moisture-proofing, and may also be used as catalyst carriers, adsorbents, separators, and variable-pressure adsorbents, etc.
